Due to the bad weather last week, our newsletter and calendars are delayed, but we wanted to make sure you knew what was happening in March!
We will be having our annual Garage Sale on March 25 and 26. If you are planning a garage sale and would like to benefit from the neighborhood banners, please let me know your address and we would be happy to post it as well. If you do not have enough items for a garage sale and would like to donate your items to the neighborhood, please let us know. All sales from the garage sale go to updating the entrances. Why do they call it Fat Tuesday?
Given that Lent was a season of fasting, it makes sense that households would traditionally consume all remaining foods that would be forbidden during Lent, such as meat, eggs, and dairy products, as Ash Wednesday approached. Hence, Shrove Tuesday was also called Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras.
Can you eat meat on Fat Tuesday?
Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras Day,is a chance to indulge—before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. During Lent, Christians fast and abstain from meat. In addition to parties and parades,some people traditionally eat pancakes before Lent.
Are there free pancakes at IHOP?
Every year IHOP gives away free pancakes today from 7:00am – 4:00pm to support National Pancake Day to celebrate the day. The pancakes are completely free with no purchase required, although a donation to Children’s Miracle Network is encouraged.
