book itElections will be held at the May 17, 2018 meeting for several positions. Please consider volunteering. If you are interested in running for office, please let us know so we can put your name on the ballots. You can respond by leaving a comment. Let us know which position you would be interested in. We Need You! Help us Dream Big!

 

1st Vice President
Shall:
  • Perform the duties of the President in his/her absence.
  • He/she shall fill, by succession the vacancy of President in the case of resignation.
  • Schedule, reserve and arrange neighborhood meeting facility
  • Sign checks as required
Secretary
Shall:
  • Keep and distribute minutes of the association and executive board meetings
  • Keep archive of association documentation as appropriate
Newsletter/website editor
Shall:
  • Prepare newsletter prior to each neighborhood meeting as needed
  • Coordinate printing of newsletter as needed
  • Distribute newsletter to Block Captain Chairperson as needed
  • Post an electronic copy of the newsletter to the website
  • E-mail newsletters to interested city officials and local neighborhood organizations as needed
  • Maintain and update neighborhood website

Challenge

Officer Bob has challenged us to fill the house at Northridge Elementary School on May 17th! Be there! It will be a very informative meeting. We will have several door prizes!

Citizen’s Fire Academy

Neighborhood Alliance is sponsoring a Citizen’s Fire Academy.

The Citizen’s Fire Academy is a program targeted toward adults in the Oklahoma City community. Academy participants will obtain an insider’s view of the services the Oklahoma City Fire Department provides, information about fire safety for the home and work place, and a deeper understanding of the duties of a firefighter by engaging in hand’s-on activities.

As an added benefit, participants will have the opportunity to do “ride-alongs” at Oklahoma City Fire Stations during this eight-week academy. This will be a great opportunity for the participants to see all of the things that they have been learning about come together in real-world incidents.

The meeting times for the Citizen’s Fire Academy are on eight consecutive Thursdays FIrefrom 6 to 9 p.m., with a welcome beginning the first week at 5:30 p.m. During these eight informational and educational weeks, participants will be enlightened according to the following outline:

Week One

The Citizen’s Fire Academy Alumni Association will provide refreshments at 5:30 p.m. The participants will be welcomed by City dignitaries, and the President of the Citizen’s Fire Academy Alumni Association will address the group. The Fire Chief will give an overview of the Oklahoma City Fire Department and discuss the Department’s role in the community. The Safety Officer will present an overview of the Safety work section. Pictures for ID badges will be taken.

Week Two

Review and questions. This night is dedicated to the explanation of fire ground operations. The Deputy Chief of Operations will discuss the Fire Department’s role on various incidents. Discussion will include strategy, tactics, risk analysis, and the Incident Management System.

Week Three

Review and questions. Special Operations night. The capabilities of the Department’s Special Rescue Teams will be demonstrated. The Hazardous Materials team will give an explanation and demonstration of their capabilities.

Week Four

Review and questions. Participants will learn about the Oklahoma City Fire Department’s role in providing Emergency Medical Services to the community. They will receive demonstrations and hands on experience with medical equipment.

Week Five

Review and questions. The Deputy Chief of Support Services will explain this Division’s responsibilities.  The support functions of Fire Information Technology, Human Resources, Fleet Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance, and Fire Dispatch will be discussed. The evening will conclude with a tour of the Emergency Operations Center.

Week Six

Review and Questions. The Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention, who is also the Fire Marshal for Oklahoma City, will present an overview of the Fire Prevention Division. The Chief of Fire Investigation and the Chief of Code Enforcement will each provide insight into the inner workings of their respective work sections.

Week Seven

Review and questions. The Department’s Public Education work section will be highlighted on this evening.  Participants will engage in a study of fire safety in the home, fire/smoke detection and alerting systems, home escape planning, and portable fire extinguishers.  Weather permitting, participants will be given an opportunity to extinguish a live fire with a portable fire extinguisher.  The Mobile Fire Safety Demonstration House will be on-site for tours.

Week Eight

On this final night, participants will tour Fire Station 1, Fire Administration, and Fire Station 6 in Bricktown.  Review and questions with the Fire Chief will conclude the evening.

CPTED – Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Neighborhood Alliance has notified us that they are having a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design if you are interested.
Did you know that with proper design and effective use of the built designenvironment can lead to a reduction of crime in neighborhoods?
Learn more about ways you can prevent crime through proper maintenance and lighting, purposeful planting, and creating natural surveillance.

Challenge to Fill the House!

On May 17, 2018 Officer Bob Skalla will be our guest speaker and provide Active Shooter Training. This is a very important presentation that all should take part in to be able to protect ourselves and our families, since this is becoming a nightly news event.

ticketsOfficer Bob has CHALLENGED us to “Fill the House”. This is such an important topic, I know we can “Fill the House”! We currently have 94 followers currently reading this blog. We hope to see ALL of you there! If you have not heard Officer Bob speak, he is very charismatic and motivating! You don’t want to miss it! We have been busy contacting merchants and we  have several door prizes! One prize alone is worth $150!

vote matterWe will also need your vote for the final street topper designs, election of several important association officer positions, and agreement when to start the crime patrol. Patrols are trained and ready!

We will be starting the membership drive soon. Please help support your neighborhood. We have been working very hard to make a difference for Harvest Hills South by bringing this neighborhood together. Membership dues are only $30.00 a year! That is only missing a Starbucks coffee once a week for a month. Please help support us to support you. You can pay by PayPal or mail a check.

Save_the_DateDue to a scheduling conflict with Hefner PD we are changing our general meeting to May 17th.

Officer Bob will be there to provide training on Active Shooter and what we need to do to protect ourselves. This will be excellent training, you won’t want to miss it!

We are going to have some great door prizes!

During this meeting we will also have elections for 1st Vice President, Secretary and Web/Newsletter Communications. Please consider running for one of these offices. We need you!

We will also vote on whether we should establish the crime patrol for the neighborhood. We have 13 people trained and ready to start. We will also discuss getting the street sign toppers and their final design.

Get involved! We are doing some really great things! We need your support!

amber lightWe told our story to them on how Harvest Hills South is coming together as a neighborhood. They graciously donated an amber light and spotlight to used for our Crime Patrol. They thought it is great that we are getting to know our neighbors and that we want our neighborhood to be a safe place.

Informed Delivery

Today there was a post on NextDoor from one of our neighbors about missing mail. Everyone should sign up for informed delivery through the post office. It is a free service through USPS. They will scan every piece of mail and send you an email to let you know what is being delivered that day. This will help you to report when your mail has been tampered. You need to report any tampering of your mail to the police.
